Paros
Island has much to offer in terms of excursions. This
is not the list with all the Paros excursions but those we have chosen
for you...
-The
island of Antiparos. Literally “opposite Paros”,
the island is separated with the island of Paros by a narrow channel.
It is an island that kept its authentical natural beauty.
It offers beautiful golden sandy beaches and a beautiful capital called
Kastro. “Kastro” means “castle” in Greek. Kastro is a traditional
white painted village and stands around the ruins of an ancient Venetian
Castle.
The island is also known for its impressive caves.
The island can be reached by caique(little boat) from the port of
Parikia.
-The Church of Panagia Ekatontapiliani.
It is a beautiful church considered as one of the most important Byzantine
monuments of Paros and even Greece. It is located near the port of Parikia.
It is said that the church was built by St. Helena, the mother of
the first Christian Emperor Constantine.
-The Kastro (castle)
is situated in the centre of Parikia, in the old quarter. Only one
wall remains today. There are many beautiful churches in that area.
-The
Butterfly Valley(Petaloudes). The valley took that
name from the many butterflies but flying only at night. The valley
is beautiful and offers a great panorama over the island of Antiparos.
- The Ancient Marble
Quarries. There are situated in Marathi and it is the place
where the famous white semi transparent marble was produced in antiquity.
This marble was used in many masterpieces like the Venus de Milo,
the Hermes of Praxiteles.
-The Golden Beach(Chrissi Akti). It is considered
as one of the top beaches of the island. It is a world known sandy
beach for its ideal wind circumstances for windsurfing.
